Students – How to find a job now you’ve graduated
So you’ve been at University for the last 4 years and it’s time to find a job. Now all you’re looking forward to is getting back home where you can be waited on hand and foot, by your overly smothering parents and watch Netflix all day.

Entering the real world
Although this does sound like a nice idea, in the real world, you can’t live like that forever. Sooner or later we all have to find a job.
University is a hugely popular option for young people these days. Meaning when it’s time to leave and enter the big bad world, to find a job can be just as stressful as obtaining the degree itself.
But it doesn’t need to be!
Okay, you have worked hard and got yourself that 2:1 in Fashion Marketing. Does that mean you have to get a job at some high profile London magazine? Where you’ll find yourself at the bottom of the pile for the next few years?
The simple answer… no! Just because you have graduated with a degree in a particular subject, doesn’t mean you have to work in that industry. Or anything relating to that subject. You will find most degrees are very transferable across various industries and sectors.
Graduate schemes
Most graduates will head straight for the big names. Trying to find a job for themselves within the highly competitive graduate schemes. Graduate schemes that are run by major brands across the UK, making them highly desirable. Literally thousands of students will be applying for these roles and undoubtedly failing in getting these positions.
So what are the other options?
There are two places that instantly spring to mind. When people start looking to find a job it is worth considering both online job sites and recruitment agencies.
Sure, there’ll be hundreds of jobs available on online job sites. However, as a graduate I bet you’ve never considered registering with a recruitment agency. Recruitment agencies (the good ones anyway) will work hard on your behalf to find a job that’s right for you. They will sift through all relevant permanent roles. Promoting you to employers, giving you the best chance of finding a job after you’ve graduated.
Of course you can also flick through our current vacancies! To see what is out there at the moment that interests you.
Why use a Recruitment Agency to find a job?
Plus, recruitment agencies have long-standing relationships with their clients. Meaning that clients trust in there judgement when it comes to prospective candidates, and allowing a greater chance to find a job that’s right.
Most degree courses carry a work placement of some kind, whether that’s a year or a month. Which means you’ll have a taste of the working world, and this is something that many employers look at. Employers look at this way more than the piece of paper that says “degree” on it.
Your willingness to roll your sleeves and graft when necessary, is something that any employer will look favourably upon.
