9 Reasons Temporary Job Workers Are Killing It!

Quite often temporary job opportunities are forgotten when people begin looking for a new position, and what a great opportunity that can be. In most cases, working in a temporary job, whether that’s to fill a career gap, to suit your current lifestyle situation or just to browse new career options, can be a fabulous option! Here we outline just a few of the many reasons why going temp, might just be for you!

1. Temp to Perm

Possibly one of the best reasons to consider browsing current temporary positions is that they act as a kind of job audition.

Interviews are always a great way to impress an employer but working in a temporary job means you can showcase your excellent work ethic, skills and how well you fit in with the team. Without the stress of going through a job interview.

It isn’t to say that all jobs are guaranteed to lead to a permanent position, but occasionally, if you really impress your employer, there’s a good chance they will not want to see you leave to go to another company because hiring a temp will save them a lot of time and money. Rather than going through the interview process, if they have someone great, sat right under their nose already, then it’s a win, win.

2. Increase Your Odds

Anytime you can expand on your experience within the work force, you’re increasing your chances of gaining full time employment.

Working in a temporary position will also strengthen your CV, and any kind of work will look much better than having gaps on your CV. Gaps on a CV can set alarm bells ringing for employers, and can be a worry that your skills and knowledge may have gotten rusty.

With 1/3 of temporary workers being offered a permanent position at the end of their temp contract (as mentioned on Forbes), you really increase your odds of being hired by a great company that you really might have not otherwise been considered for, had it been as a perm position you had initially gone for.

Undertaking a temporary job position really shows initiative, which is an attractive trait to potential employers, that you have the willingness and flexibility to go ahead and try something new.

3. Keep up the motivation

Let’s call a spade a spade. Job hunting can really be a huge headache, and as time slips on, and the rejection emails pile in, it can really be difficult to keep up a positive frame of mind and keep that ball rolling.

Mental health has become much less of a taboo topic lately, and this is an area that can certainly challenge how healthy your mind is. Recognising that depression and anxiety can easily creep in and drag you down whilst job hunting whilst being open about the topic, can really help. There are some wonderful resources for mental health whilst job hunting and tips of how to keep up the motivation whilst you are going through any stresses it may bring.

Employers can sense desperation in your application, especially if you start firing off your CV for all manner of roles, whether they’re relevant to your experience or not. So, this is a big put off for employers.

Jumping into a temporary job role, means you will be considered for many different jobs you may not have otherwise been considered for. It will boost your confidence and keep you busy whilst you continue the permanent job hunt… or who knows… if you fit in well whilst carrying out your contract, you may just be hired permanently!

Being in any type of work, will stop the inevitable questioning of yourself when going through many rejections. Back yourself and know that you’ve totally got this and will soon land that job you’ve been dreaming of!

4. Invaluable Experience

Somehow, we’re expected at 16-18 to know exactly what we want to do for the rest of our lives… when it turns out only 27% (give or take) are in a job related to their degree. So It’s no surprise that almost all of us, will have some kind of career crisis in our lifetime.

With Millienials starting to lead the work force and being a generation like none before. People are no longer worried about changing, looking for more and seeking out happiness with a work-life balance.

Are you struggling to really know what you want to do? Temporary job positions can really be an excellent way of having a sneak peak into different jobs.

It may be that you see this really isn’t for you, and that’s okay! Because temp working gives you that easy out, as you can be placed in contracts that last from 1 day up to 6 months.

Or hopefully, you will see how great the job is. Taking on all this valuable experience from the experts you’re working alongside.

You can now go out into the big bad world and apply for jobs within this field!

Also, being in permanent jobs for long periods of time can become detrimental, it’s easy for your brain to fall asleep at the wheel, not learning anything new, becoming stuck in a rut and rigid to change.

If you feel you’re susceptible to this pattern of behaviour, take the first step to a happier, more successful you and take a look at our website, I’m sure we will have something that might pique your interest and give you all the warm fuzzies.

5. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know

Networking can often be a scary word, that fills you with dread. Walking around a stuffy room full of people wearing suits, swapping business cards. Yikes, that’s not for the most of us!

Temp work is a casual, easy way to broaden your network. You meet all manner of people from many different backgrounds and sectors.

You also don’t know who other people may know! More of a reason to really impress and whip out the charm when working in a temporary role.

It is worth remembering, temp work doesn’t mean you don’t have the work as hard… because who cares right If you won’t be there next week? It means quite the opposite! A smile, hard work and a dedicated attitude can take you a long way and open many new doors.

Something else most don’t consider, is meeting new people will challenge the way you think and approach tasks. If you keep an open mind, the people you are surrounding yourself with can offer so much personal and professional growth.

Much of what you learn from others will be transferrable between jobs, rarely will you be taught something you won’t use again in some form. Lap it all up!

6. Experiment

Temporary work can offer you many perks that permanent work cannot, for instance, if you manage to land yourself a new permanent job and you aren’t enjoying it, it’s much more difficult to up and leave. Temp work can offer you the flexibility to try out different jobs, in different companies.

Keep your eye open in your temp job too, because around you will likely be many different departments, even if the one you are working in doesn’t suit your personality. One of the departments around you might just suit you down to the ground. Chat to people, see how they like their jobs. It could be an eye-opening experience for you. Remember to keep it relaxed, it won’t bode well for your to be forceful for permanent work with your temporary employer. However, being friendly, a keen learner and ensure you carry out your duties to the best of your ability, will do the hard work for you.

Experimenting is also great as you can change up the routine. We can run around on the same wheel for years. Doing the same thing, day in, day out. Time to mix it up? Go into temp work! A shake up, might just be what you need.
